Event Description
Historically, the federal government has played a unique and indispensable role in advancing health and climate outcomes at the scale needed—setting national standards, directing resources, building public infrastructure, and ensuring protections reach communities across the country As the federal environmental landscape shifts dramatically, many funders are grappling with a critical question: what does it take to build the public support, advocacy capacity, expertise, and institutional infrastructure needed for government to do its job effectively? This discussion will explore Reimagining EPA and Envision DOE as case studies in how philanthropy, civil society, former government experts, and communities can work together to develop practical, forward-looking approaches to rebuilding and strengthening government capacity. Panelists will share lessons learned from recent years, the risks posed by the loss of institutional knowledge and workforce capacity, and opportunities to create a more effective, equitable, and resilient federal environmental infrastructure.
